Ultra-portable production pad.
The LPD8 laptop pad controller is a USB-MIDI controller for musicians, producers, DJs and other music creators. It measures less than 13 inches across and weighs less than a pound to easily fit into a laptop case, backpack or messenger bag for extreme portability. The LPD8 is based on Akai Professional’s MPC line of iconic music production stations. Producers who love the feel of the MPC and want to work with software on their computer will find that the LPD8 gives their laptop the controls they prefer over a mouse and keyboard. The LPD8 has eight orange light-up pads that are velocity sensitive for programming rhythmic or melodic parts. The pads can also send program-change information to software. Additionally, the LPD8 has eight assignable Q-Link knobs you can assign to virtually any parameters in their software for hands-on control. The LPD8 works plug and play with Mac and PC and requires no software driver installation or wall power for operation. It has four memory banks for programming and recalling settings appropriate to different software programs you use. Make music in any setting with the LPD8.Features:
- USB-MIDI controller works with virtually all audio software
- Eight backlit, velocity-sensitive drum pads can send note or program change

Comments about Akai LPD8 Laptop Pad Controller:
This is the perfect controller for my set and I'm sure it would be for anyone else's (Current Serato). The pads are very responsive, they have and excellent push feel. Each pad lights up on contact, which is a great look. The knobs are great as well, I mainly use them for internal tempo shifts and effects. Best of all I love how Loop Rolling works using a pad to start the loop and a knob for speed control in the roll...it's awesome, trust me. Overall this is a must have, perfect for Serato on a daily use. The only product that would be worth getting over this is the Midifighter Pro but that is only if you don't mind a very loud clacking, bulky & limited (knobs) controller.

Comments about Akai LPD8 Laptop Pad Controller:
i currently use the LPD8 with Serato 2.0, i use it to activate and control the FXs. it does a great job of that, the buttons and knobs are very easy to map and respond very well.
one down side is that the pads dont stay lit when "activated".

Comments about Akai LPD8 Laptop Pad Controller:
This midi controller is light weight and of high quality. Though it doesn't have a lot of pads the fader knobs come in handy. I use it with my 57SL Rane Mixer and with all the hot keys already on Serato this Akai LPD8 just elevates my mixing skills.

Q:
How would you map this product with garage band and what cd software does this product come with?Asked on 9/7/2010 by medellin from south gate,CA1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
You would use the internal Midi preferences in garage band. This unit does not appear to come with any software according to the Specs on AKAI's website, if it does come with a software most likely it would be Ableton Live Lite.Answered on 9/8/2010 by J.J. @ PSSL from Cypress CA
