Comments about Akai MPC-500 Sampling Music Production Station:
Wow, I got my MPC-500 yesterday. I have used drum machines and turntables for years, but never owned a sequencer or sampler before. I finally broke down and bought one. When it first arrived, and I turned it on, I was frustrated for the first couple of hours; it did not work like my old Dr. Rhythm. It took me less then 5 hours reading the manual before I was able to do everything I could do with the drum machine, better yet, I was able to do everything I ever dreamed of doing with the drum machine! The only problem I had with the unit is that you have to hit the pad REALLY hard. I would not be surprised if there was a way to set the sensitivity of the pads, but alas after 2 weeks, I still can't seem to figure out how to do this. One other negative is that the manual does not have an index, this would be VERY useful.
I would recommend this product to anyone that was new to the world of sequencers and samplers.

Comments about Akai MPC-500 Sampling Music Production Station:
I use this for when I'm away from the studio(my own production company). I always have ideas popping in my head. The majority of my time is spent away from the studio unless someone comes over. The sound is clear like studio sound, it's easy to operate and compatible with the other mpc series. It's not complacated. But I recommend this. I personally recommend this for anyone who is always on the road and got them ideas that need to come out before you forget them.

Comments about Akai MPC-500 Sampling Music Production Station:
I am a former fruity loop user, but wanted the hands on feel. For my first machine I can't ask for nothing more. It is packing almost the same heat as it's older brothers(MPC 1000, 2500, etc.)Loading sounds and samples are a breeze. Chopping samples is a little harder but once you get the hang of it its a breeze. The only Cons are the screen size (which I already have worked around) and the sound output (it is a bit low). Other than that I suggest for those wondering what machine to start off with or something thats portable take the MPC 500, you can't go wrong.

Comments about Akai MPC-500 Sampling Music Production Station:
I have very little use with MPC products , until purchasing this unit. So far I'm very impressed with the 500. It's portable , easy to learn, and sound quality is great. The only drawback are that the screen is limited, so you visually can't edit samples, and also patch phrasing, unless you have one of the earlier MPC's. I would reccomend this product to anybody!!!

A:
Yes, the mpk88 would be a great recommendation as a midi controller.Answered on 9/10/2010 by Stephen from psslCUSTOMER CARE
A:
Yes you can plug in the Akai MPK88 if they both have midi. here is what i have ran into with my Akai MPC 1000 the samples or key tones you load up will not lay out on the keybord you have to manually import the sound and assign it to every key. if anything look into whats called (Maschine) they have a video up on you tube the wonders what this device can do it really cool and you can do so much more and way easy to use. Or look into getting Reason, with reason you can lay out your sounds on the keybord.Answered on 9/10/2010 by Phillip from Pro Sound
