Akai MPK61 - Fully loaded for studio and stage.
The Akai MPK61 keyboard performance MIDI controller combines a mix of 61 semi-weighted keys with aftertouch, 72 assignable Q-Link controllers, 16 pressure and velocity sensitive MPC pads, MPC Swing, Note Repeat and an arpeggiator. The MPK6 is ideal for producers, performers and DJs who need a larger keyboard but a lighter weight and more portability. It also allows for you to divide the keyboard into two separate zones for performing with two different programs at once!
The MPK61 also includes the popular and powerful performance and production Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition software. You can compose, record, remix, improvise and edit musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment with Ableton Live Lite. Since the MPK61 is MIDI compliant and works as a MIDI controller that sends data over USB for plug-and-play performance, it will work with virtually all MIDI recording, sequencing and performance software for any user.

Comments about Akai MPK61 USB/ MIDI Keyboard Controller:
If you are thinking about getting a MIDI controller, and are loaded, and aren't looking for something hard to play like fully hammer-weighted keys, then forget the 88. Get the MPK61 and all your dreams will come true. With 16 velocity sensitive pads as well as 5-octave velocity keys, as well as 8 knobs and faders for mixing, you have a full workstation at your disposal. It's not too heavy and it will definitely be an asset to your production.

Comments about Akai MPK61 USB/ MIDI Keyboard Controller:
Awesome controller. Ok so what you need to know....
I use this controller with FL Studio. It works great..can be set up to work well with the FPC and samplers/slicers. There are presets online to fool around with too.
Ok..now if you are using Windows 7 Home..Windows will find the drivers. If you are using Windows 7 Pro....you'll have to go in and update the driver using a generic windows sound device driver. (there are many forums on this online)
Once its set up its awesome. Create a preset so that your FPC pads line up accordingly.
Only other thing I can say...if you make beats..key sensitiviy is fine. If you play piano the keys are a lil stiff...I like the solid feel..but I dont play with multiple hands.
I like the keys on the Axiom controllers a lil better but they are fine for what I do.
The controller is solid.
The pads are slightly smaller than the mpd pads..they get the job done. They seem not to sit at the same height as my older mpd either but are fine. Also, online you can buy all kinds of custom pads and change how they feel.
They only bad thing I can really say about the MPK...like the MPDs there is no OFF switch...usb powered ..if your computer is on..so is your MPK.
All in all...great buy..great price from PSSL.

Comments about Akai MPK61 USB/ MIDI Keyboard Controller:
I enjoy the quality of play - the playability of it, and the quality is outstanding. I use it for composing & producing tv music. Since I've grown accustomed to the number/letter keyboard being placed over the left top part of the keyboards I've used before I haven't had much use for the faders of the MPK61. Otherwise all good.

Comments about Akai MPK61 USB/ MIDI Keyboard Controller:
Production with any software synth (drums are particularly fun!)is made infinitely easier with the performance controls. Great action on the keys and drum pads. Sliders are stiff and knobs are tight offering precise control over levels and sends.
This thing is built to a very high quality standard. It has surprising heft for being just a MIDI controller. Feels good :)
That said, it is a MIDI controller and the presets don't always jive with the software you may be using. Some manual programming will be required.

Comments about Akai MPK61 USB/ MIDI Keyboard Controller:
Pretty easy to use once set up. Pre loaded settings for DAWs don't match up. You will have to program it yourself. Interface is very basic and hard to maneuver around in for programming. Once set up it very easy to use and has lots of options. I never could get the transport controls to work though.

Comments about Akai MPK61 USB/ MIDI Keyboard Controller:
This thing is very versatile and built like a tank. If your a beginner it may take some time to learn its uses. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with an AC adapter and when its powered by USB you can not operate other midi devices but the computer.
