Alesis DM6-USB-KIT Electronic Drum Kit
The perfect choice for aspiring drummers everywhere.
The Alesis DM6 USB Kit (Formerly DM6 Kit) highlights the best of Alesis' 20 years of experience in professional electronic percussion gear. This electronic drum set features a completely new sound module with 108 quality drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds. Its pads feel great and its hardware and rack system are high quality.
UNMISTAKABLE ALESIS FEEL
Like all Alesis drum sets, the DM6 USB Kit features realistic, natural-feeling playing surfaces. To reduce vibration feedback, we selected natural rubber drum and cymbal surfaces for the DM6 USB Kit's pads. This five-piece kit gets you started on a dual-zone snare pad for two-sound compatibility. You can dial in a snare drum sound in the center and a rim click, rimshot, or something totally different like a cowbell on the rim!
The DM6 USB Kit also comes with three tom pads, an upright kick drum pad, hi-hat, crash, and ride cymbal pads. It even comes with an Alesis bass drum pedal and the kick pad is compatible with any single or double bass drum pedal for your personal feel.
OUTSTANDING SOUND
The DM6 module features an internal collection of top-notch drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds that will blow you away. You can edit and save your drum kits for custom sounds. You get 10 presets and 5 custom slots. In addition to the sounds in the DM6 module, there's a USB output that sends the notes you play out as MIDI signal, so you can use the DM6 as a trigger-to-MIDI interface with drum-module software such as BFD, Toontrack, or Reason for a limitless collection of sounds.
The DM6 has headphone and amplifier outputs so you can play quietly in phones or connect up and rock out. You can also connect your iPod or CD player and mix it in with the DM6's stereo input jack.
PRACTICE TOOLS
The DM6 module has a metronome, an essential tool for keeping steady time whether you're practicing alone or with a band. The DM6 also has a built-in sequencer with 40 preset music tracks for play along.
RUGGED HARDWARE
A drumset is only as strong as its weakest link. The DM6 USB Kit mounts on a heavy-duty aluminum rack. The standard 1 1/2" tubing enables you to add on with Alesis and other brands' clamps and mounts. The kit also comes with a full set of mounting hardware and cables, as well as rugged kick drum and hi-hat pedals.
Get more than you ever thought possible with the DM6 USB Kit.

I bought this set at the beginning of January from PSSL. [...]The sounds on the module are great for all the drums and the high hats, but there is only one realistic ride sound (all the others register you hitting the bell too much.) The crash cymbals seem to fade out too quickly. All these things sound great, though, when you are playing along to a song. Also, when i plugged this into GarageBand, I had it trigger their kits. It sounded amazing. The only thing I am not happy about is that after two weeks of use and about 45 mins a day during those days, the snare stopped responding. I tried all i knew to fix it, and it still would not respond. I opened the snare drum and saw that there was a broken cord inside. I am going to send it into Alesis, but i will have to pay shipping to send. (not receive) In the mean time, i set a tom trigger pad as the snare and play with only two toms, like a jazz kit. From what i know, this doesnt happen often, so i would definitely recommend it to a friend.

I bought this to round out my small home studio. I wanted something of quality, but not too expensive. I held my breath after I ordered. Would this be a cheap beginner's kit? I was very pleased when I first set it up and played. It set up very easily and intuitively. I run it thru a mixer then a stereo amp and then to a pair of PA speakers (each with a 12", 15" and tweeter bank.) The kit sounds amazing... especially for about $500! The interface/module is easy to use. It has all of the basics a drummer would want without complicating it with deep menu systems.
This is not a $2,000+ unit, so if you want complete sonic control, this is not the kit for you. For the money and quality of components and sound, I have not seen a better bang for the buck! Hence the 5-star rating.
The only con I can think of is the snare volume. In all of the factory kits, the snare is too soft in volume without really hammering down on it. I ended up creating a user kit where I turned up the snare to max volume and turned the other triggers down. Now they are all balanced better to my playing style.
While the DM6 is aimed at the amateur and beginner market, the sound quality and playability are of a much higher-end electronic kit. With a decent PA or drum amp, the DM6 sounds very convincing when compared to an acoustic kit. Tactile response is great too!
