Comments about American Audio SDJ2 Dual SD USB Player w/ Mixer:
I was looking to lighten my load. After lugging around close to 2500 CD's to gig's my arms were getting a little long! I was a little leery of buying an American Audio piece, but at the time they had the only player that would play SD cards. SD cards are pretty much indestructible. Over the past 1.5 years this unit has held up better than I expected. I DJ in clubs that have setups already installed so I manufactured 2 brackets that I mount on the sides so that the unit stands at an angle on its own. This way when I go into a club all I have to do is use the mixed output of the SDJ2 to one of there inputs on their mixer. No more hauling 80lbs of CD's.
I was concerned that the unit would not hold up to the smoky environment of the clubs, but so far no problem. The knobs for the headphones volume and cue fader are a little on the small side. The headphone jack for my use would have been nice on the front, back, or on the top of the unit rather where it is as it tends to get in the way. Some tone controls on the mic would have made this a truly stand alone unit. The jog wheels response is a little on the strange side, they took a little to get used to. You can beat mix with this unit, but remember the larger the range that you select for the pitch slider the harder it is going to be to match beats with the lower resolution of the slider. I would have liked to have had an led or something to indicate which SD card or USB was in use. You have indicators that are for the player as to where you are playing from, but if you need to change SD cards in the middle of the gig you need to pay attention as there is no indication the SD card is in use. It will only support one level of folders. No folders inside folders, well you will see the files, but it won't be identified as being in a sub folder.
There are many options on this unit, of course it is no Pioneer or Dennon, but for the price and what it can do it has been very pleasant to use.
One word of advice, as with any mp3 device, try and use the highest bit rate mp3 or mp3 VBR as possible because as you change your tempo it will alter the audio if you have selected to maintain pitch while changing the tempo of your song.

Comments about American Audio SDJ2 Dual SD USB Player w/ Mixer:
have this gear, will travel far and light without optical (CD) players, mixer, bulky CD bags & laptop. the built-in mixer is just a cherry on top. headphone volume and fader knobs are super tiny and tightly spaced. will still buy an outboard "Q" mixer though. why can't the japs do this with competetive pricing? love the product. thank you american audio!

Comments about American Audio SDJ2 Dual SD USB Player w/ Mixer:
Simple enough for a chimpanzee to use, a BIG step in the right direction but for the absence of a headphone "cue" feature. I'm not kidding. Both decks are simply always "in cue". The only way to turn one deck on or off in your headphones is to use a tiiiiiny knob to adjust the master headphone volume. The only way to select which deck is in your headphones is to use a tiiiiiiny knob to fade between the two. This means you can't suddenly "cut" the headphone mix and listen to the PA live mix while "mixing". You have to quickly turn the HP volume all the way down (which is nearly impossible to do without bumping the pitch slider of deck two - which screws up the mix they made you work so hard to obtain in the first place!) If you plan on using it with an external mixer, it'll do everything you need and more. The integrated mixer is essentially worthless though - at least for any kind of live "real" DJ mixing. And they were sooooo close!

I dont believe you have to fomat you card for this.Answered on 4/9/2011 by Jack from Cypress, CAA:
With all the SDHC cards that I have used, I have just installed the music on them dirrectly out of the box! They have worked everytime.
TIP: Try installing the music in folders that you name that makes sens to you as that will make finding things much easier especialy if you use larger SDHC's! Sub folders will not show up on the folder selction option. The music will but not the sub folder name.Answered on 5/26/2011 by DJ pHatt Daddy from Orlando, FL

Q:
States that it supports high capacity SD cards. Up to how large? (4GB etc.)Asked on 8/30/2010 by Anonymous2 answers

A:
up to 4GB SD card / MP3 recorded at 128 bit rate.Answered on 9/10/2010 by Dj Seankillazz from Santa Ana, CAA:
It will except up to 32g sdhc's. Mind you that you will need to buy the faster cards for the larger volume sdhc's. It will play any size encoded mp3, it just has to be mp3! The larger the mp3 rate, the better it is if you plan on playing songs back at the same pitch but a differnet temp. (faster or slower temp but maintane the corrct pitch of the music)Answered on 5/26/2011 by DJ pHatt Daddy from Orlando, FL
