Comments about American Audio VLP-300 1U 100W Power Amplifier:
I purchased 2 of these amplifiers to use in a restaurant sound system. I needed an amp that was 1U in size and low power output. They are running small speakers on our patio and office areas. This amp is perfect for this application, studio speakers or even advanced home theater systems.
This amp does not put out a lot of power but for under $200 and 1U, it isn't supposed to. Know what you are buying.

A:
This amp is actually a little too small for your speakers. A quick referrence to chart the right amp is to take the RMS or Continuous Power Rating and Multiply that by 1.5!
i.e. Speaker is 250w RMS (regardless of the OHMS) x 1.5 = 375w
So you will need an amp putting atleast 375 watts to this speaker alone. Now this calculation is to run your speakers properly. Running a small amp to speakers can result in blowing out the actual speaker.Answered on 1/15/2010 by Leroy D. from Cypress, CAA:
You need an amplifier with no less than 300w per channel. If not, you won't have any available headroom. Most speaker damage is caused by under powered amps not over powered ones.Answered on 4/7/2010 by DJ Kenny Ray from Augusta, GA.
