New Scorpion™ Family of boldly colored, aerial effect lasers
I think everyone can agree that lasers are an asset to any event and they are one of the greatest effect fixtures you can have on your rig. I recently had the opportunity to have some fun with, I mean diligently review, three new CHAUVET® Scorpion™ lasers: Scorpion™ GVC, Scorpion™ RGY and Scorpion™ RVM. Forget the standard red and green beams and welcome to the world of bold colors. These lasers, which are surprisingly very compact and lightweight, can create ultra-bright cyan, magenta and yellow beams by using red, green and violet lasers. CHAUVET® has successfully taken it to the next level by creating color-mixing lasers at such an affordable price.

Fat Beams in bold colors.
When I opened the boxes, I was impressed with the slim and sleek case design. The back of the units include an LED control panel, a built-in microphone for sound-active control, a built-in fan and all the connections for your DMX, power linking and power cords. Before I got started, I used the CHAUVET® Hurricane™ Haze 2 to fill the room with haze so I could really get the full effect. I was instantly blown away by the massive beams these lasers project. Scorpion™ GVC projects green and violet lasers that mix to create cyan; Scorpion™ RGY projects red and green lasers that mix to create yellow and Scorpion™ RVM projects red and violet lasers that mix to create magenta. Separate color controls (a huge bonus) are included so you can either project solid beams or mix them together for multiple color combinations. All three lasers are fully linkable with one another (in master-slave mode) so you can design a full spectrum laser show at your fingertips. I'm amazed these high-power lasers are ready to use right out of the box without a license - this will make our jobs as entertainers a bit easier.

Eye-Catching Effects
There are a ton of room-filling effects that can be created with the Scorpion™ GVC, Scorpion™ RGY and Scorpion™ RVM lasers. Operating them in DMX mode gives you the freedom to experiment with over 40 features and design your own laser shows. Each Scorpion™ laser has 10 channels of DMX control which gives you control over the laser's color, 32 patterns, effect size, zoom, speed and beam position. I wanted to operate these fixtures from my computer instead of using a standard control board, so I brought out the laptop, opened up ShowXpress™ and let the real fun begin. I loved the variety of multi-colored and multi-patterned shows I was able to create with just a few clicks and it really helped having programmable pan, tilt, separate X, Y and Z rolling effect features already installed. The zoom range of 1 to 36 degrees also increased design flexibility. For those of you not familiar with DMX and prefer the ease of plug-and-play, sound-activated programs move and groove to the beat of the music and built-in automatic programs feature dozens of aerial effects (even the popular 'laser sky effect'), most of which are accessible right from the digital display.

Scorpion Simplicity
Overall, I found the Scorpion™ GVC, Scorpion™ RGY and Scorpion™ RVM lasers can seem intimidating because of the big, impressive show they produce, but they are actually very simple to use. All three lasers are lightweight (5.6lbs), compact (11x8.5x7.4 inches) and easily transported which makes them perfect for mobile DJs, bands, hospitality venues and clubs.
