FireWire works particularly well in desktop music environments because of both its easy connectivity to personal computers and its fast data transfer rate (400 Mbps per second). With the introduction of Alesis’ MultiMix FireWire mixers, musicians can now have a single tool that competently addresses both their live and studio requirements.
Welcome To The Revolution
Available in 8, 12 and 16-channel configurations, the MultiMix FireWire
mixers incorporate next-generation DICE II FireWire technology. By making a
single cable connection with your Windows or Mac OSX personal computer, you
suddenly gain the ability to transfer multiple audio data streams to and from
the computer. The FireWire interface provides lightning fast, 24-bit stereo
simultaneous input/output via the mixer’s FireWire connection to a wide range of
computer-based audio production applications with support for both the 44.1kHz
and 48kHz sampling frequencies. Of particular significance, the DICE II FireWire
chip has been built from the ground up specifically for audio applications,
resulting in unsurpassed stability when recording.
Each channel is sent to
the computer post-fader, which means that you can use the MultiMix’ EQ settings
when recording. Additionally, the Main Left and Right channels are sent to the
computer, so you can record your complete stereo mix, including not only each
channel’s settings, but also the mixer’s internal effects and any external
effects that may be connected to the MultiMix’ AUX send and returns.
The Layout Of The Land
The MultiMix FireWire mixers utilize low-noise analog electronics combined with studio-grade 28-bit digital effects—making them affordable, versatile companions for a wide range of music and sound applications. All three models feature high gain mic/line preamps, 48V phantom power, auxiliary sends/returns and an onboard effects engine encompassing one hundred preset effects like reverb, delay, chorus, flange, pitch and multi-effects. Further, each channel provides 3-band EQ with high/low shelving and mid band pass/reject. Also on board are separate 1/4” balanced main and monitor outputs for control room speakers in a recording application or for PA speakers in a live setting. A headphone output with level control is the perfect answer for late night recording.
Attention To Detail Is Everything
By instinct, whenever a musician inspects a mixer, the process always begins
with the throw of the faders. Rest assured, the MultiMix FireWire mixers won’t
disappoint. While the 8-channel version uses rotary knobs for level adjustment,
the 12 and 16 channel versions provide smooth, 60mm long throw faders that feel
great. Similarly, every rotary pot and push button has a distinctly solid
feel.
When you add it all up—clean, quiet operation, a wealth of great
sounding onboard digital effects, easy connectivity to personal computers with
and an overall build quality that inspires confidence—you’d be hard pressed to
find better value. Whether you’re seeking a mixer for small live sound
reinforcement applications, home studio recording or a combination of both, you
really should check out Alesis’ new MultiMix FireWire mixers. The MultiMix
FireWire mixers are unquestionably the right tools for the
job.
