this item introduces hum into the sound system when connected between the laptop and preamp or a mixer and i beleieve lowers or attenuates the overall playback sound/signal coming from the laptop, lowering signal-to-noise ratio effectivly. the sound would have been clean if the hum was not there.

I've only used the headphone outputs and the rca outs. Haven't used it for recording because i have a better soundcard for that. But this thing does the trick. Easy to install, fast, cheap and it even works with the ASIO4All driver (in case you are gonna use it with some Digital Audio Workstation).
It feels light and cheap so i'll do my best not to step on it ar let my toddler bang it agains the floor, but aside from that, it's a pretty ok soundcard.
