I use this pedal in front of my vintage tube amp. This amp is equipped with a 12au6 and is without EQ controls so it can sound lacking in character. Upon receiving this pedal I switched out the factory 12ax7 tube (sounds a little too buzzy Beatles for me) and replaced it with an antique 12at7 and--BAM-O!--New life was breathed into my amplifier.
In short, I essentially use this pedal as a means to add some bite, punch, and clarity to my guitar playing. Heavier overdrive can be derived from this pedal but in my opinion its not necessarily the pedal's strong point. Disclaimer--I have also found that with my 12ax7 amps this pedal can make the signal sound thinner (which can be a good thing if that lighter and thinner 'lo-fi' sound is desired).
In conclusion, I've found that this is a great pedal for the money especially for my own personal use. It is a bit noisy and the controls aren't the best (typically I only use about the first 5% of the control range) but it is GREAT for the low price tag.

I have a lot of amps and I prefer tube amps for my style of playing but there are times when you don't want to leave your favorite amp behind after practice. The VT911 tube overdrive added to your present amp will give you the tone you need to have, and may turn a few heads too!I can leave my old Fender Princeton Chorus, and this pedal, when I don't feel like lugging everything home, or in a hurry. Turn it on...let the tube warm up, and listen to a sound that makes that amp you didn't want to get rid of sound like you should be using it much more often.It makes everything your amp can do, more articulate,gritty,crunchier,tonefull and so on...
