Bugera V55HD
The 1960s witnessed the creation of amp designs destined to remain the choice of guitarists for centuries to come. Those that survived may have very different flavors, but they all have one thing in common: they respond very dynamically to the player’s nuances. BUGERA captures these amps’ musicality in a stunning 1x12 combo(V55) and amp head (V55HD) whose modern touches put a wider palette of vintage voicings at your fingertips. With a proud pair of 6L6 power valves in the output stage, the V55HD bathes your guitar in clean California sunshine. Let’s go trippin’…Old Guts, New Glory
We went to great lengths to give these amp the ability to deliver everything those dusty relics of the rock revolution did—minus the collector-sized pricetags. But in true BUGERA fashion, we took this labor of love one step farther to give you maximum tonal possibilities. To explain, we’ve gotta take a quick detour to the late 1940s… Before hillbillies began co-opting the blues, amps came in two varieties: those with triode (having three active electrodes) power valves and those with pentode (containing five active electrodes) power valves. Triode valves, which predated the pentodes, provide what many guitarists agree is a “softer” tone. Pentodes produce a slightly more urgent, aggressive sound. The V55 and V55HD run on power pentode tubes, but include a Mode switch that lets you run the power section as if it had triode tubes – that is, at about 40 percent less power. This gives you the option of going beyond old-school – straight to elderly school. Welcome to your personal tonal time machine.A cutting-edge classic
The old amps that defined electric guitar tone were often single-channel amps. These amps offer that same vintage clean, but add a second channel for modern high-gain tones. To begin, take your pick of the Bright or Normal inputs, then twist the three-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) and Presence control to sculpt your signature sound. Depending on which channel you choose, three 12AX7 preamp tubes take your tone anywhere from dignified blues to garage-leveling madness. The V55 and V55HD’s power stage’s dual 6L6 valves propel this tone through a BUGERA 12" speaker. Need to feed more speakers? Both amps have an Impedence switch that toggles between 4, 8 and 16 ohms, making them compatible with virtually any speaker cabinet. These amps also have reverb, but in the interest of tone and durability, their reverb is derived from a studio-caliber digital processor. The spring reverb found in their post-war predecessors sound lovely, but they’re delicate and expensive to repair. The V55’s modern update gives you an equally mesmerizing vintage reverb sound without the wallet-draining vintage reliability. And if all these features weren’t enough…you also get a road-tough footswitch that allows you to select channels and activate/kill the reverb remotely. So whether you’re in the studio, rehearsing in the garage or pulling into Champagne-Urbana for a gig that pays two pitchers, the V55 and V55HD are able to complement your craft with the gold-standard tones of the past—today! The BUGERA V55HD features a road-tough footswitch that allows you to select channels and activate/kill the reverb remotelyFeatures

Comments about Bugera V55HD 2 Ch Amplifier Head W/ Reverb +:
Pros: I have this head going through their 2x12 cabinet and am loving the real tube distortion. There's just nothing else like a real tube amp and this one is no exception. The Clean channel is very nice. Detailed and everything you want in a channel of this type. Move the Bass, Treble and Mid controls and you'll have a nice tone in no time. Add some Reverb and you're good to go. (Of course this amp takes pedals well so if you aren't happy with the Distortion, plug your favorite pedal in and see what you can do. Smile knowing that you'll be shredding with real tubes.)
Now on to the real reason we like tube amps: the Distortion channel. If you're after a death metal sound, this is not the amp for you. Think of hard rock from the 70s, a la AC-DC and you'll get an idea of what you can do with this amp. It's capable of so much more mind you.
Out of the box it's a tremendous bargain. Well made and heavy. Three 12AX7 in the preamp, 2 6L6 GC in the power amp stage.
My only mod was replacing all the tubes with Groove Tubes: 6L6 GE and 12AX7C (and that was only because I bought the replacement tubes to swap into my Peavey 3120 one day. Never got around to it so the tubes were just lying around. I was very satisfied with the stock tubes...don't get me wrong). After a trip to the amp tech for a re-bias, this is a new animal entirely. Lots more gain while also being warmer and smoother and just more polished. A little more than $100 for the tubes and I have a killer amp.
Cons? None so far. I believe Bugera had some QC issues early on but have apparently ironed everything out.
This head is a bargain. You really can't go wrong. Get yourself out of Solid State Land once and for all!

Comments about Bugera V55HD 2 Ch Amplifier Head W/ Reverb +:
[...]This amp is NOT what they claim it to be...it's BETTER! I have played through Marshall amps that have survived the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Fender's that seem to be held together with just tape and faith, and a few boutique amps,...and this amp can NAIL those tones! I play this through my Fender 2x10 or 2x12 cabs and it sounds phenomenal! I have also cranked this through a 4x10 and a 4x12 cab and it gives me goosebumps! It's handy to tote around I actually have reserved the passenger seat of my Ford Taurus station wagon for this amp! I can't seem to get a bad sound out of it, no matter how hard I try! I also love the vintage look it has about it, it seems to just "ooze" that vintage-y, old-school vibe. As for the channels, they're BOTH killer, I am a bluesman mostly, but there are times when I'll put the chorus and phaser away, and pull out the metal distortion pedal with a wah, and this baby can hang! The Clean channel is all about the Past, it's got everything you could want from "Fullerton" CA inside, it's chimey, twangy, clean, and somewhat rude if you put an overdrive in there lightly, the Gain channel is all about power, it moves air in an amazing way, you could play this through an 8 inch speaker and it would sound good. The gain structure is really full of "girth" it can give you grinding crunchy tones at the drop of a dime! It's got enough power to put you "Right There" but it's got the intelligent decency to hold back, (until you tell it to move of course!) If I had to give all those "Tone Hounds" out there a bit of advice? Forget the $1500.00 boutique amps, grab hold of one of these, and tweak the knobs to your hearts content, you'll soon discover that everything you've been searching for...IS RIGHT HERE!
