My stage manager claims "fog machines" lead to slippery floors and slips and falls etc. She could not elaborate on which type or model she experienced this with. OK here is the question(s); does a dry ice machine lead to slippery floors? On stage? Around the machine it self? And does this type have any negative effects on fire detection systems whether heat or particulate triggered? Is this something more related to "fog juice" machines or defective units or poor usage practices?

BEST ANSWER: Neither dry ice nor standard fog machines lead to slippery floors. The only effect machine I've heard that makes floors slippery is a snow machine. As far as fire systems, dry ice machines are probably the safest to use around them as they lay low and dissipate before getting anywhere near the sensors. Fog and haze machines shouldn't have any issues with heat detection system but particulate systems can be tripped by the machines if there is a heavy amount of fog or haze. It's not an issue of misuse that triggers these systems, moreso just the nature of the machines themselves.
