The Obey 8 is a compact 32-channel DMX controller that is ideal for LED fixtures. It can control up to four, eight-channel fixtures and store eight sets of chases containing up to 99 steps each. Additional features include the ability to stack/layer scenes, a speed/fade slider that allows fading between scenes at user discretion and adjustable blackout. The Obey™ 8 also features flash buttons that provide 100 percent output when buttons are held.Features:

Great controller with lots of control/chase options. Easy to program - even on the fly at a gig. No DMX fog output though, but LED display is useful for programming and running multi-step chase patterns.

Dmx programming was a new experience for me although I have some expertise with the midi protocol which is similarly asych communications. What attracted me to the Obey 8 was the size of the panel. I only required a controller that employed 6 channels for two lighting effects. I was hopeful that I would not encounter a unit that would push me into submenus.
On this score the Obey 8 was laid out logically. After a few hours learning how to program the unit it behaved admirally. All of the information you need is contained in the documentation, but the instruction were sparse and a bit unclear. The could have added a few pages of tutorials.
They mislead you into thinking that you can create 8 chases of 99 steps. While any chase can contain 99 steps, the aggregate memory is finite. I created 5 chases with about 350 steps and hit the wall. This was acceptable for my needs, but could be a dealbreaker.
The Obey 8 is well built. The buttons and cadets were solid. I would recommend this unit to a novice like me. If I needed to use a DMX controller to earn a livelihood I would not look at this unit.
