Comments about Chauvet Vue 2.1 DMX LED Moonflower:

This is a great effects light that will light up a dance floor as if you had several lights.
Now there are those that may not be fans of this brand, but despite the price this is not a cheap fixture in construction or effect. In Audio mode it has 35 different built in programs that it will cycle through. In DMX mode you can control any of the pre-wired formations of LED's as you please making the color combinations and effects as you like to fit your show, with of course the limitation of the wiring. If you consider what a moon-flower effect was just a few years ago, this light is amazing.
As you may have seen on YOUTUBE already this light is great shining on the ceiling, on the dance floor, but how about on the wall behind your setup instead of a video system. The colors being generated by LED's are bright and vivid. Smoke is not required, but of course it gives the light much more appeal as most people like to watch the beams move through the room and not just on the floor or what ever they are shining on. One surprising thing about the construction of this light is that the mounting bracket is on a rail rather than bolted to a single spot. This allows for a few more mounting options than other manufactures. Not that this should become an issue, but in the users manual Chauvet has a parts breakdown and actually lists all the replaceable parts. Like I said, I don't feel that this will be a problem with this fixture but a nice thing to have even though the light comes with a 2 year warrantee. If you are new to the world of digital electronics, most will last a very long time. If they have a problem, they will usually show up soon after they are put into use, thus the term 'infant mortality' is used with a lot of digital electronics. So if you don't have a problem with this fixture in the first several months I would wager that you will get many years of use out of this fixture, especially if you don't physically abuse it.
A few things that I would like to see added or changed would be; 1. A lens that would focus the LED image a little better. Not a big deal, just a personal thing. 2. I would like to see a little more control over how the built in programs cycle when in Audio Mode. 3 An input for some sort of manual control of say Black Out, Strobe and Cycle Rate of the programs for those that either can't afford a DMX controller or for situations where that much control is not needed but some would be nice.
All in all I have been impressed with this fixture as I myself am one of those people that don't normally consider buying Chauvet fixtures. Yes, there could be more LED's, yes, maybe the patterns could be different, and yes, the programming might be a little better! But I would argue for the price you are definitely getting your monies worth and then some in this fixture. You aren't shelling out $400 and still wishing for more!
