Battery-Powered Chauvet DJ EZ Series Adds Light Anywhere
Mobile entertainers spend hours of precious time, not to mention a lot of money, setting up for gigs and are always looking for ways to save. We want gear that meets the needs of our clients, is easy to operate, and simplifies our setup and teardown process - all without breaking the bank. When Chauvet DJ announced the release of the easy-to-use, battery-powered EZ series, which includes EZpar 64 RGBA and EZrail RGBA, I immediately went to my local dealer to check them out. The first thing I noticed was the compact size and how little they weighed. Each fixture in the series boasts up to 20 hours of battery power, features wireless IRC remote control and is designed to speed up the set up and teardown process by eliminating the hassle of running cables. So basically, I can set them up just about anywhere, I run cables and tape them to the floor, I can just pick them up when I'm done and I'll save loads of time and money? That was all I needed to hear. I made my purchase, brought them home to charge completely and put each one to the test.
EZpar 64 RGBA
To give you a visual, EZpar 64 RGBA is about the same size as SlimPAR 64 RGBA. It is slim, compact and weighing in at 4 pounds, surprisingly lightweight for a battery-powered fixture. I can use this light in just about every place I used my SlimPAR wash lights - it fits in my TRUSST totems and is great for uplighting. To make our job a bit easier, Chauvet DJ offers EZpar 64 RGBA in a black or white casing to easily blend in at any mobile gig like wedding venues and band setups. In fact, because EZpar 64 RGBA is available in white, it's an even better fit for me as an uplighting fixture because a lot of my brides like having the classy look of white fixtures. I flipped the power switch on and was immediately impressed with the brightness - this powerful little fixture is fitted with 180 red, green, blue and amber LEDs, which gives me access to the colors my customers love.
I like linear wash lights because of the amount of coverage they provide, so I was very eager to test out EZrail RGBA. Plus, the linear Chauvet lights I already use have great built-in chase effects. EZrail RGBA is about the size of my COLORstrip Mini, but has the punch and effects like my COLORrail IRC lights. Weighing 5.6 pounds, this lightweight wash light uses 160 red, green, blue and amber LEDs to create stunning pastels and rich colors, which will allow me to create the perfect lighting package for any event. In addition to providing uplighting and an outstanding area wash, this fixture is also controllable in up to four sections for enhanced effects. This means I can project rich, colorful washes and really cool, eye- catching chase and runway effects. It gets better - you can access built-in programs by simply pressing a button on the included IRC remote - kind of like having two fixtures in one. Of course these programs are also accessible using the LED display or a DMX controller.
The Effortless EZ Series
EZpar 64 RGBA and EZrail RGBA are powered by a lightweight rechargeable lithium-ion battery that takes about six hours to charge. They each provide up to 20 hours of illumination using a single charge, which works out perfectly since most gigs only run about 5 or 6 hours. The long-lasting battery gives me plenty of juice to turn them on well before the guests arrive and keep the party going into the night. By eliminating the need to run messy cables, these lights cut my setup and tear down time to just a few minutes, instead of the hours that I used to need for every setup. In other words, these lights literally pay for themselves in just
