Comments about Electro Voice EV ELX115P 15" 2 Way Powered Speaker - Live X +:
EV did it right with this powered speaker...almost. The sound is fantastic-smooth mids, crisp highs, deep lows. Could you use them without a subwoofer? Sure you could, but there are still frequencies that they won't hit that a sub will. If you are just playing background music, or even older dance music, they have more than adequate bass. However, if you're DJing a party or wedding where you're playing more modern songs with more "thump" you'll want a sub. I had a pair of JBL PRX515's before these, and don't get me wrong they are great speakers, but these EV's have a little smoother mids and a touch deeper bass, which made me eventually sell the JBL's. Also, these speakers are impressively light when considering they have a wood cabinet, built in amp and 15" woofer.
Here's the only problem with them. Their amps thermal (overheat) a bit easier than most powered speakers. The only time I've ran into a problem is when i'm using them outdoors and they are exposed to direct sunlight in 90 degree + weather. Other than that, you'd have to push them reealllyy hard indoors to get them to thermal; i haven't yet. My solution to this was buying a basic $15 dollar air circulating fan and placing it so the airflow goes up onto and past the amplifier unit. Even if the fan is on the ground, that little bit of airflow helps the amps a ton. Another minor problem with them is that the cabinet gets damaged somewhat easily because it's not ABS plastic. If you hit the speaker on something, the paint comes off and exposes the wood which doesn't look good. Invest in a pair of covers for them or load them carefully and they'll stay looking new for many gigs.
Bottom line- For the price, you can't beat them.

Comments about Electro Voice EV ELX115P 15" 2 Way Powered Speaker - Live X +:
The ELX 115p is a very well designed loud speaker. It features a rugged wooden cabinet for a clean, solid sound, multiple combo jack inputs with individual signal gains, rca input, strong powder coated grill, and a fantastic value. I use these speakers mainly for corporate events and DJing. The EV's have a very effortless sound to them which leads to a very well balanced speaker. The highs and mids complement each other well without favoring one another. The bass response is tight and clean at low volumes as well as in high output applications. For the money, you really can't go wrong with a set of these. Not only do they sound great but they are very lightweight for being a 15" powered speaker in a wood cabinet. The lack of cooling fins on the amp helps to eliminate unwanted weight, yet compromises nothing in regards to amplifier output or sound quality. I have had these guys playing for over 10 hours straight with no issues with them overheating. The ONLY con I have found with these is the lack of rigging points. Most people will not need it anyways but if you do want to fly your speakers, the ELX115P is not a great choice. All in all, the ELX 115P is an excellent choice for anyone needing clean, loud, effortless sound reproduction for live events. Best part, they are a fraction of the price of most quality powered speakers out there.

Q:
How is the 1000 watts broken down? IS it 500 HF and 500 LF. IS the 1000 watts program or peak power? Please let me know.THANKS.2 answers
A:
OWNERS MANUAL DOES NOT SPECIFY PEAK OR RMS OR WATTAGE TO EACH DRIVER.A:
I'm pretty sure the 1000 watt rating is peak power. If each cabinet had 1000rms, that'd be ridiculous. I'm not sure of the RMS wattage distribution between components, but I want to say it's like 400rms to the woofer & about 150rms to the horn. That's just a guess though, look on EV's site for specs.
