The PRX518 is a high performance selfpowered compact subwoofer system. The PRX518S is comprised of a 2044E 460 mm (18") VGC™ (Vented Gap Cooled) woofer driven by a Crown International Class-D digital power amplifier. A propriety DSP chip is at the core of a fully featured input section, providing user selectable crossover functionality, polarity optimization, protection, dynamic limiting and discrete component optimization.
The enclosure is constructed of quality plywood and coated in JBL’s rugged DuraFlex™ finish. An integrated pole mount on the top enables an easy sub/satellite configuration. The CNCmachined steel grille wraps around the sides of the enclosure so there are no protruding lips on the front of the box to create acoustical interference. The grille is also lined with an acoustically transparent foam to provide additional driver protection.
The amplifier input panel offers stereo inputs with XLR or ¼ inch jack compatibility. A user selectable crossover ensures a smooth transition to full-range system connected to the stereo outputs. Signal present and overload lights indicate the system status and assist in setting the optimum level, via the level control knob.

Comments about JBL Pro JBL PRX518S Compact 18In Pwrd Subwoofer - GOOD *:
I bought one of these to match my two PRX 15' tops, anybody that owns them knows how loud they are and how necessary it is to have a sub. At first I purchased one and did a party with about 150-300 people in a hotel banquet room. That one sub (with the tops silenced in an empty room) shook the ceiling. I am not a big fan of powered set ups due to the lack of power however if you take 4 of these and match it with the 2 tops you should do fine. I only have 2 of the subs now and am pretty satisfied with how they look and sound but I need to have all the bass I need at any given time depending on the size of the crowd. They don't distort but the bass is very low, recommend putting them in the corner or in a good spot that will amplify the sound. They don't do too well set up the traditional way, a corner set up is crucial but will make a world of difference. A BBE or DBX won't hurt either. If you buy the full set up with the drive rack, seal the deal and please your client with ease.

Comments about JBL Pro JBL PRX518S Compact 18In Pwrd Subwoofer - GOOD *:
I bought one of these along with two of the 15's. I hooked them up for the first time and was pretty surprised at how they sounded. What I recommend is a DBX 120 or BBE 421i or better. I ran my lower BBE on it and it sounded great. The bass reached the back of the room and shook the ceiling (only ONE). This was in a room that could easily hold 400+ people. Once it got full the bass was rich and clear, but you will need two for larger parties if you want to leave an impression. In short after turning off the 15's I just ran the sub to check the rumble and it was nice. Literally you saw all kind of rat droppings and roach babies falling from the 5 star hotel ceiling. Seriously!! The lows don't catch as low as you would expect a JBL non powered. It's rated at like 40-45 kHz, if you're expecting a low similar to an earthquake, stick with the old Afterburners. It's a 500w PA speaker, that's much lighter and easier to transport. I bought one more to match on each side and my sound quality is magnificent. With the BBE and Mackie Mixer you can't distinguish the difference in sound quality between any other speaker to include Mackie (that's why the prices have dropped). Don't even think about getting the B-52 all in one, you'll be out blasted and the other guy/gal will look better while doing it. I am planning to get the powered drive rack to optimize it and that should do it for me as far as a powered set-up is concerned. Extremely portable!! I do several different shows and genres, mainly Hip Hop, TOP 40, and RnB to include live sound and PA only seminar type events, and this powered set up hasn't failed me yet. The newer ones are cheaper and more powerful (+100w) so I would shop around. All in all JBL is the industry leader for a reason and you definitely get what you pay for. They aren't heavy I can fit two of these, two PRX Series 3 way 15's, a fold out table, my coffin (two Technics) and all of the necessary components needed to enhance the sound plus cables, in the back of my Saab SUV (trailblazer). You can load the whole set up by yourself, if you have to carry them far, order the little [$] dolly, that's all you need. The sound to weight ratio will blow you completely away, don't be fooled by the light weight! As far as putting them in a class with EON, LET IT GO just GIVE IT UP. EON can't come close to the PRX series period considering the cost of both series' of speakers. These have way more headspace and you WILL be asked to turn it down if you go for the full left and right set up. This would be extreme overkill for a house party but you can always adjust the volume on the back and switch between PA and X-Bass, one is lower than the other plus you can adjust how much bass you want to add to your mix from the built in EQ custom on all PRX series JBL's. The sub is going to knock the pictures off of the wall along with the rat droppings, and roach babies from the ceiling...period, if its too loud for the neighbor's just turn it off. If the place is too small there's not much you can do about that. I am an engineer and was against placing them in the corner due the location of the dance floor. I tried it once and it almost completely had to be turn it down to about 8 o'clock so the people could eat and talk at the party without being shaken or startled by the sound. They literally rocked the place at high volumes for hours without even heating up. Overall great sub. Get the full set up, take care of them, and make your money back with professional sound quality, ease of handling, and sleek stylish looks that demand that you should be well compensated for dragging these bad boyz out. They look expensive because they are and people will automatically know you are serious about your craft when they see these, I guarantee it! Good Luck and Keep Spinnin' DJ Rukiss! Comments about JBL Pro JBL PRX518S Compact 18In Pwrd Subwoofer - GOOD *:
I picked this up because of its size and weight.. Once I hooked it up and started pumping music through just this 1 sub and 2 Eon G2 I was surprised at how clean and hard the music was coming through.. I pushed it for about 6 hours in a room with 110-120 people and it sounded amazing even from the back.. Setup and breakdown was cake.. At the end of the night amp was not too hot at all and for the volume I was playing at i was surprised I never reached clip overload.. I will definitely be picking up a second one.. Eventhough it had no casters this sub is light enough where you can carry it a short distance no problem.. I would highly recommend this for DJs looking to keep a compact setup that it east to connect.. If it matters it bumped hard with cumbias, nortenas, dance, old school.. I was satisfied with what this small sub put out!!
