The VRX918SP is a powered, suspendable subwoofer system containing a 2268FF neodymium magnet, patented Differential Drive®, 18" woofer in a front-loaded, vented enclosure. The VRX918SP was designed specifically for use in arrays with the VRX932LAP Line Array speaker and VRX-AF Array Frame. In addition it may also be used in arrays consisting entirely of VRX918SP subwoofers.

Q:
Can a powered speaker be used with passive mains? I'm thinkin' it wouldn't be a problem with the use of an external crossover. Yet, I'm not familiar with these speakers, if they have their own internal crossover, and if they are compatible to use with an external crossover? I'd like to avoid having to lug around more amps, to add some low end, but I don't want to have to virtually start over with my equipment. I'm considering the prx subs as well as the American Audio 15 inch sub.Asked on 1/17/2012 by Anonymous1 answer

You can use the JBL VRX-918-SP with passive speakers that are running on a separate amp. They do have an internal crossover but I would suggest running a crossover for your mains like the DBX DRIVERACK-PA+ PLUS EQ Speaker Control System (Item # 73482) which has a crossover, 28 band eq and limiter/compressor in a single rack space unit.
