Horizontal motions control the pitch, while the vertical axis can control tone parameters such as cutoff, feedback, or modulation depth. If you want to create a beat off the top of your head the kaossilator pro is the way to go. Sturdy, lightweight , and easy to use. So may sounds to choose from. Korg products are amazing I recently bought a kp3 and a microkorgXL . The xl is on the way but the kp3 and kaossilator pro together are so much fun I highly recommend getting them both ;)

I had the kaoss pad 3 for a short time before I learned about the release of the Kaossalator pro. I was on the waiting list and I've had it for a few weeks now.
This is more of an instrument than a toy. If you are coming to it new it's really amazing.
The touch interface is nearly perfect. The sample quality is excellent. It seamlessly integrates tempo with sounds, and the synth sounds are pretty rad. The are 20 drum loops, and a bunch of kits.
The down side is that you still cant make and save your own sounds or drum beats. You can edit the way the sounds change, but you can't make and save new soundscapes.
