This package is awesome. I wasn't 100% sure how these strange little cubes would sound as I had gotten so used to what we normal see as a pro audio speaker (woofer with horn above). The size weight and price were interesting to me, so I gave Mackie a call to figure out what the deal with these speakers were (especially after seeing the outrageous commercial for them, haha crazy Mackie).
"2,000 Watt Peak on the DLM12? Yeah Right." -Kilgore
"Thanks to advances in technology we were able to make exactly that happen at a good price for our consumers in the DLM12 speakers." -Mackie Rep
"okay, but where's the Horn? or is the DLM12 just a woofer?" -Kilgore
"It's a legendary design that hasn't been taken advantage of for a little while. We decided a really exceptional speaker that's compact and powerful while maintaining Mackie standards for durability was a really important thing that people need and our customers who have to cart around equipment don't always have big cars but need BIG sound. LOUD technologies likes to get loud and the way we were able to put the horn in the DLM12 was by using our Vertically Aligned TruSource technology. This eliminated the need for the typical horn on top design and save our clients 1/3 of the space on typical speakers" -Mackie Rep
"..." -Kilgore "Well that's a lot of info, is the DLM12 still able to be as effective as a normal speaker"
"Most Definitely" -Mackie rep
"what if I don't like how the DLM12 sounds?" -Kilgore
"I hope you get a chance to try out a DLM12 to hear the sound for yourself. I know most companies have return policies that will allow for at least a few days of home listening to where you would be able to test them out and return them if you ended up not being satisfied." -Mackie Rep
"Well thanks for all the info, I definitely appreciate your help, have a prime day" - Kilgore
So then I looked around and you guys, ProSound, had one of the best prices in town and I deal with you guys all the time so I figured I might as well give these a shot and I sure am glad I did. My SUV was getting lousy mileage but I need the space to transport my sound system. Now that I have these I could probably downsize to a compact car get two of the compact subs and keep the whole system in my trunk or backseat. I also do a bit of jamming when I'm not throwing parties or doing sound for events at bars and weddings. So I know mackie advertises these as pretty versatile and being a great option for guitarists and bass players. So I plugged in my bass to one and my buddy plugged electric guitar and vocals into the other one. It's no handcrafted tube amp, but the portability is amazing and we had a funky LOUD jam. Instead of our normal rigs weighing well over 100lbs combined, these speakers come in just over 50 pounds for the pair. (Less than my standard bass amp) Sounded solid and I definitely think we'll take advantage of these for that more often as well. Mackie has solid warranty coverage and service so I imagine I'll be using these for a long, long time.
I dig. Nice work Mackie, the DLM12 is a success and with this package you can really get some major work done.
