Comments about Numark IDJ2 IPOD Mixing Console W/Scratch & Pitch:
At first glance the IDJ2 is a great deal, compact enough to bring anywhere, and versatile enough to get the job done. But when really making the box work for it's money, you start to notice things. The controls feel like it's a kids toy, with plastic unsturdy faders & knobs, bad buttons, and cheesy jog wheels. The large color screen is not so large when you start throwing all data and details on the tiny screen, it really makes you strain your eyes. When you get into how it operates, the loading times are slow, you can't play songs you bought on Itunes, and loading your Ipod takes precious time in your setup. Don't get me wrong this is a great starer system, but when you come from using Denon equipment, you tend to expect more. I use this rig as a backup since it is all self contained and portable.

Comments about Numark IDJ2 IPOD Mixing Console W/Scratch & Pitch:
I had hoped this would be the head piece of one of my smaller dj units - that's still up for debate. I do want to correct some erroneous reviews. The songs take a long time to load (approx 15-20 secs) if you do not index them. You would take a long time to read music if you never saw it before. Numark offers a software tool on its website called the Librarian which indexes your music. This should be done first on your computer before the event and takes approx an hour depending on the size of your music collection. Once indexed the songs load faster than you can load a cd or put vinyl on a platter and cue. The idj2 is really a nice idea with its self contained digital hard drive interface. I would like to see a higher end, larger version. Great as a portable system. Also, it crashes randomly - but still working to see if it is due to the idj2 or my hard drive...

Comments about Numark IDJ2 IPOD Mixing Console W/Scratch & Pitch:
The Numark iDJ2. The setup everyone has been waiting for. What do I think? It's a mixed bag really but let's start at the good stuff.
The unit is very clearly laid out and easy to use, especially for the beginner. The screen is absolutely amazing and Numark's "Crate" idea is absolutely brilliant. Profile views of the songs are also really cool if you choose to be that hi-tech with it. All the info you need is right on the screen such as BPM, pitch, and time. The unit itself looks great, especially in the dark with all the lights. XLR outputs are great too.
Now for the bad. The interface is slow, especially with both songs playing. The countdown timer is even very rough. Pitch adjusts are delayed a little bit as well, since in essence, the unit is nothing more than a computer and the unit itself is just a midi controller for that computer inside the unit. The BPM was often wrong and although you can override it with TAP, the BPM still seems to drift everywhere. The unit feels cheap since most of it is plastic and it's very light. Numark's Librarian takes a while to sort your songs too but once you're done with the initial scan, it gets easy.
As far as digital setups go, this is the most impressive but it comes with it's quirks so be prepared. In the end, I got rid of mine because I felt like I was using a toy, the exact opposite of what Numark was trying to do.
I would recommend this unit to beginners but advanced DJs should look elsewhere.

Comments about Numark IDJ2 IPOD Mixing Console W/Scratch & Pitch:
Very slow to load songs, unless first entered into crate. Shut down on it's own the very first night while doing a gig. Will not read protected AAC files that I purchased from I-Tunes! At times when loading song, other song that was playing, would stop/start. Great for like a college dorm party, but I would not recommend for the professional DJ, unless you bring something to back it up.
