Comments about Numark NDX400 Table Top MP3 & CD Player W/ USB:

I purchased this as a 3rd option for my Numark Mix Deck Express. I've been a DJ for over 20 years and still carry CD's as a back up to my laptop. The NDX400 allows me to load a CD and play it on Channel 3 on my mixer and still have the ability to search for tunes on my hard drive.

Comments about Numark NDX400 Table Top MP3 & CD Player W/ USB:

I needed something small and affordable just to mess around on and just practice my mixing. I don't have space in my condo for my 1200's (which are at my friend's house).

I purchased a pair of these and that tiny Gemini mixer. I set up the SL1 that I keep at home, put the SratchLive Control CD's in each deck and away I went. No hitches at all using ScratchLive. The outer ring reacts perfectly when nudging it, as you would the platter on your turntable. The pressure sensitivity on the inner ring for scratching is very responsive. I never use the Play/Pause button to start the song when throwing it in live into a mix; instead I use the center ring and go back and fourth on the first beat as you would a turntable. That was a biggie for me!

                      Use at a real party:
A friend called and asked if I could play some music for New Years. His parties can get wild and rowdy, so I decided to take my NDX400's, as I didn't want to damage my main set up. It's a lot easier to replace $500 worth of equipment vs 2K. I started playing some older Hip-Hop, Funk, and Old School around 7 pm. Around 9:30-10 I started playing House (of all forms), Electro, and all of the newer Hip-Hop. Needless to say, when the crowd heard instructional music like "Drop it low girl", "Bend over to the floor, touch...", etc. My table got bumped several times and hard (Odyssey L-Stand and tray held my Laptop safe and sound). So, at 6 am when we called it quits, my NDX400's, used with ScratchLive never failed, skipped or jumped.

I use this product with my old Stanton vinyl tables and an old Behringer mixer. I really like the overall design. The unit feels solid and works perfectly. All of the features are very impressive for the price. The only thing that I do not like about them so far is that it does not seem to read mp3 metadata. It just shows the filename of the track. Other than that everything is great!

I believe that in order to play music through a flash drive with this unit the songs have to be in MP3 format. You can easily find software programs online for both Mac and PC that will convert any music file type to the compatible MP3 format. If you have any more questions feel free to call. 800 945 9300.

The NDX400 is not MIDI enabled, but you can use them with Timecode CD's. For this, you will need a 4in-4out sound card (such as the Maya 44), Timecode CD's (Virtual DJ offer Timecode downloads that you can burn to your own CDR's), then set up Virtual DJ for use with Timecode. The better option would be to go with the NDX800 or the Denon DNS-1200.
