This has worked great for me.
I would recommend getting an external power supply so that you do not overload your USB power supply in your computer.
As for compatibility, it will work with any MIDI controllable software that I am aware of. But the compatibility really is more with Native Instruments' TRAKTOR PRO. If you are planning on using this with TRAKTOR PRO I would recommend you do some homework and look around on the internet for better maps than what you will get from N.I. Their OMNI map for TRAKTOR PRO is not what I would call the best. I guess that it really isn't a compatibility problem but rather N.I.'s lack of support of their premium software over the LE version. I ended up finding a map of all the buttons/lights on the OMNI and remapped it to my liking.
Once that was accomplished, I don't see that you would necessarily need to buy a more expensive controller. Of course as time goes on there are new features that are coming out with Jog Wheel controls (like the NS7) and more buttons that allow you more control of your software, but for the money with remapping of TRAKTOR PRO this unit does an excellent job.

Don't buy one.
Mine just broke after a year and Numark doesn't consider it a mixer and it isn't covered by the same warranty. I think they consider it a joystick or something.
The USB plug has a loose connection and will cause a fatal system error WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING which forces you to reboot the computer. Also, my channels for the eq have some sort of bled which cause the levels to drop while you are playing.
Besides you will spend months trying to sync it with Traktor because there is almost no documentation. There are custom TSI files out there but you will not find them on the Numark site and you will have to install and uninstall a bunch before you find one you like. There is no documentation for setting up the mixer to use Traktors 4 turntable setup.
I was playing out last Saturday (10/23/2010) and the unit would play for a minute then crash. It did this repeatedly for almost a hour. I had to tape it down like a loose earbud on a pair of headphones and I'm terrified of trying to play out with it now.

I couldn't bring my turntables to Afghanistan on deployment. So I thought I would venture into DJing from a PC. Wanted a MIDI to re-learn on and took a gamble with the OmniController. It was frustrating to say the least trying to get thesoftware to recognize the hardware. I kept getting "FAIL" and other errors. After going to several online forums and chatrooms, I finally figured it out. Calling NUMARK wasn't much help (20+ minute wait time from Afghanistan isn't cheap) and I still haven't received an Email back yet. But now that its working, AWESOME! I love how easy it is to navigate through the software and the Omni has all the tools I need to stay in the game. [...] I highly recommend this if you're tired of lugging ar ound heavy decks and vinyl.

Purchased the Omni control after spending some time on a friends Vestex controller. Similiar feature set, the Numark has a more solid feel/construction. I've logged around 50 hours on the controller, it's easy to use & set up with Traktor LE. No controller issues, have had Traktor hang a few times which ends up requiring a full reboot. Will look to upgrade soon to Traktor's full release (likely pro).

It worked fine with Traktor 3 LE, but once I upgraded to Traktor Pro it had to be mapped and the map that NI gives you, doesn't give you full function of all its features.

Actually do not own it at this time, BUT, I have played for 10 years and am a avid Serato user, i've been playing on this controller with some dj friends over the last months and i gotta say this is a quality piece of equipment. With the options the software includes and it's easy use, I am certainly amazed at what a quality product this is. I have not experienced ANY problems software-wise or hadrware. I do have the tendency to move around a lot with my hands, so i do bump the tempo here and there, but thats really about it. If I wasn't going to purchase the Vestax VCI-300 I would be purchasing this.

I'm using this product as my intro into DJ'ing as a hobby but who knows where it could take me.
Ok for first the pros:
- Good weight on the unit. Solid Build
- Knobs, faders, and buttons are good quality
- Has built in sound card
- Easy home setup
- Reasonable Price for an intro product
The Cons
- The pitch control can get out of sync with the Traktor 3 LE software. Not sure if its the software or hardware.
Overall I am very satisfied with the product so far. The Traktor 3 LE software is very limited. Hopefully this product is compatible with Traktor Pro.
Definitely recommend to those who want to just start out and not spend thousands to do so.

No, the OMNI controler has a built-in sound card.
