My first pair of headphones when I started on 2 technics 1200's 5 years ago were the MDRV700's. I didn't use them long enough to give them a fair review because once I saw these come out I jumped on them. I bought the HDJ-1000's right when they were released. 2 years into their use the right ear cup gave out and there was no sound. Rather than paying for a brand new pair I took the right ear cup apart and found two wires had come loose. All it took me was some time, solder, and a solder gun and I was back up and running. Over the next 3 years wear and tear would finally give. The leather ear cups started to crack, but the sound was not altered. Clear, crisp, mid's and highs were all I was hearing during my numerous high school proms/dances, various weddings, and numerous house parties. I would have preferred just a bit more bass with these headphones as that was what it kind of lacked. Just recently at my last gig on 4-17-10 the right headphone swivel gave in and broke during my set. I managed to make it through the night. All in all, these headphones are great! I absolutely loved them over the course of the 5 years that I owned them. I'd own another pair in a heartbeat, but with so many new headphones on the market, the variety to choose one is going to be difficult. That is the dilemma I am currently in.

I love the sound quality of these headphones but the design is horrible and poorly built. I have gone through 3 pairs in 5 years and all three pairs have broken at the same spot near the where the ear cup meets the frame. They are good if you only dj at clubs or events 1 a week or something like that, but not for the rigors of a working dj. I play out at least 4 nights a week, and I said before I have a grave yard of 3 of these headphones. I'm finally sick of the hdj 1000s, super glue, and electrical tape. I need headphones that will at least last over 2 years. Thinking about trying out the hdj 2000s since it seams they are built tougher.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
My pair broke just under the hinge and Im not the first that that's happened too. Spoke with Pioneer about this seemingly common issue and requested a return with the option to upgrade to the 2000 model that's seemingly more sturdy and was denied. My first impression on Pioneers customer service is not a good one.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
I am a nightclub DJ who has been in the business for about 10 years now. As far as sound quality these rate very close to what I have used before. I have used products by Sony and Technics. I was most please with the Technics. The problem with all of them is that they eventually break at the swivels. Most headphones I had for 3+ years. I have had my Pioneers for about 6 months before they broke. I have sent a request to Pioneer to see if they can help, but I am doubting it.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
I bought these when they first came out years ago and thought they were amazing but then i got the Technics RPDH1200 which are much better. i still have both and the "leather" cups on the Pioneers are starting to crack even with putting treatment on it. Technics are long lasting and far better quality as always!

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
These headphones have crystal clear sound quality, but after much use the ear cushions start to wear away. It would be nice if you could replace them. I am interested in the HDJ-2000, but they are more expensive.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
I've owned mine for over a year, Though many talk about the joints breaking, Which I can see and understand way due to poor design, I still like my headphones!
Mine have yet to break, Though my cups now have finally started to rot and crack away. :(
These ARE nice headphones. But with their high price... There is many others that are JUST if not BETTER then these.
The only reason I went with these, Is because all my DJ gear and most of my studio gear is Pioneer.
Over all... If price isn't a issue I would tell someone to get these.

Same problems as the others. they sound great. Then the bad things start to happen the wire that goes into the cup cracked and pulled out, the headphone pads started to crack, and then the joint broke. all this after 1 year of use. They are great sounding but if your gonna buy them try to get some kind of extended warranty which i think pssl does not have.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
Even if you did not touch these head phones, with time the plastic pieces start to crack and is about a year old, the sound was good to for about a year, not worth the price, poor design of plactic joints, good idea but not durable, even if you are a very causious person they will break, even the leather pads beggan to crack just a week before joint cracked.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
Had the pair for less than a year and the joint on the right ear gave out. I used this pair strictly for the club, three nights a week, with a diferent pair for home use. It seems the materials that make up the head band and the joints are very poor quality. I take care of my goods and they usually last years but even with care these broke. The only up-side is that they sounded great!

Comments about Pioneer HDJ1000 Professional Headphones:
I would recommend this, but with conditions. But first the good stuff. The sound quality on these babies are top notch. I have used Sen's, Tech's, the old Pioneers, and other no name brands claiming to have "great" sound but these are up there with the best. I loved the mono switch on the side should you encounter split cueing and not like that sort of thing. However, mine broke after 5 months of use. I have heard of others having the same problem, but this may have been isolated. However, with that aside, if you want clean sound and good looking headphones look no further.
