not just for bands...........
Pros: Good Power,2db of headroom,Durable,Clean Sound
Cons: Difficult To Set Up,Cooling fan
I bought this because I am getting sick of these extremely expensive audiophile power amps!! I have used such beasts as Krell, B&K, Pass Labs(great stuff) and my best ones I have used were the Classe monoblocks! As far as this QSC pl340--I must say I am inpressed at the overall clarity and tone, the bass is VERY tight and has a good low end to it, the midrange is a bit open, but not harsh to the ear, it does NBOT fatigue at all! The highs are very sweet and roll off quite nice, considering this is a pro power amp. This is a 2 channel amp, and I havent shut it off in about 1 month now, Im doing my burn in to the amp. I must say there is a slight difference to it after the first 96 hour run,..I am using my NAD cd player w/ a B&K pro-10mc pre-amp in balanced hooks. The sound did mamage to warm up a little after the first 96 hour run, it is very pleasing to my ears, I have several speakers run on these, I use Energy rc-70s', MArtin Logan, and 2 pairs of older Cerwin Vega D-9's quite the jump from Martin Logann to Cerwin vegas, but then again I like loud music as well as a good sounding speaker. The Energy speakers are rated at only 250 watts, and I know I was pushing them to the limit w/ this amp, as I have never heard these speakers thump and just sound so open and effortless during playback of Megadeth and The Who,..as well as some old Cream and Iron Butterfly. This is a good combo,!! SO if your wondering aboiuyt the specs, I feel they are a bit off on certain things, the damping factor might be higher than stated , as the little 6 inch woofers on the Energy's were really not moving that much, and I had on some re-mastered dance stufffor my wife one evening, and she actualy said turn it down. I think if your curious, to give these a try, as if your gonna spend 20,000 on a pair of Accuphase 8000 mono blocks, or a pair od 16,000 Bryston 1000 watt mono blocks, then these amps will fit quite nice, as they have 1250 into 4 ohm, w/ 2db of headroom, 1.8 I think. they have a 3 year warranty and I bought an additional 3 years for [$], so a 6 year warranty!! Only thing is the fan in it, its not that loud, as the music drowns out the noise, and NO , there is no hum or feedback from the fan, the amp is absolutely silent while on idle, no hum, NOTHING from the speakers,......take that Parasound!! all in all this is a fantastic POWER amp, turn it up and sit back, and let this little guy do your music justice
