I control the music effects in our 50's - 60's group, meaning; all the lap top control is right next to me and my mic stand for easy selections, waist high! It's very practical and totally ergonomic, also makes our visual image look high tech. This stand is rarely seen on stage! I get asked where I found it, I tell them, PSSL! Smaller folding laptop stands (of varying qualities and stability) might be cheap and easy to carry, but you generally end up placing these on a low table and stooping down to look at your laptop(s) all night. By end of the night, your back is killing you.

With the QuikLok, you get a sturdy (small-footprint) tripod stand that brings a laptop, mixer, MIDI controller, sampler, or similar sized device up to eye level. No stooping! The stand has an adjustable height, adjustable angle (with a nice metal gear-like interlock that will not slip), and 4 adjustable outer "arms" to securely and snugly hold equipment of any size and shape. There is a nice metal tray that slides out (on quality linear bearing rails) to allow for a wired or wireless mouse to be used when desired as well.

I have already used it to hold a huge 17" laptop for Serato Scratch Live mixing and for holding a Roland/Edirol VR-5 for live video mixing, compositing, and web streaming. The QuikLok is a solid, well-designed unit that really helps position your equipment exactly where you need it in a secure and reliable manner. I will be adding at least one more to my setups since my work often calls for multiple laptops and being able to look out at a crowd at eye level while monitoring my laptops both looks more professional and is going to save me from becoming a hunchback.

As an aside, my "con" about it being heavy is really a plus because this means it is made of mostly sturdy metal and not plastic or thin aluminum. The stability and reliability of good metal structure comes at the penalty of being heavier. If you leave it assembled (time saver), it can be a little awkward to transport because of it's shape, size, weight, and balance....disassembling removes a lot of those issues, but will increase your setup time by a couple minutes. I don't see this as a negative, but wanted to mention it for those thinking this is a cheapo lightweight stand. It's not - and that's really a good thing, IMO.
