DIGITAL for Corded Mic Clarity
Pros: Versatile,Lightweight,Clear Sound,Easy To Use,Compact,Extreme Distance
Originally I had bought the Shure PG14/PG185 lavelier mic for wedding ceremonies, but its range wasn't quite what I needed, experiencing a droput at 50 feet. Returned it and took a chance on Shure's NEW PGXD14/93 Digital wireless mic line. This is similar to the popular Line 6 brand using digital technology. The "D" in the model name indicates it is a digital. This unit uses the super small omnidirectional condenser mic element, which is extremely sensitive and will pick up everything around you. If you will be relatively close to the speakers, recommend opting for the unidirectional lavelier mic element. Yes, [$] seemed like a lot, actually $100 over my budget..but just one use sold me on its quality and value. I tested it out at my home, plugging it into my powered speaker and placing them on my driveway. Shure specs this unit at 200' range optimal conditions. They lied. I took a 100 foot cord I had and measured 200 feet. I stood there and tested the mic. The sound quality was AMAZING, and it WAS true that Digital wireless mics sound like wired mics!! No hiss, no static, no momentary dropouts. There was a fairly stiff wind blowing and the unit's wind buffer did very well at filtering it out. My $300 Audio Technica wireless mic dropped completely out at 200'. To see how well it really was, I began to walk further away, marking the distances. 250'...crystal clear...300'...still sounded like a corded mic. I stopped at 600 feet. YES, this is NOT a typo...I stood at a 600 FOOT distance (line of sight) and the sound was still amazing clear. For mic'ing wedding ceremonies, this unit picked up the B&G and the officiant easily so no need for 2 mics. Its range and clarity will ensure exceptional tonal quality, and since the omnidirectional mic element is so darn small, it essentially disappears from view. Be looking for a youtube video soon to show how well this unit sounds at 600 FEET!!! It's 20-20khz frequency response and 108db S/N ratio means this will be PERFECT to use as a device for a remote speaker. You'll just need to get an adapter. Amazing...I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
