The Taylor 716ce is hands-down the best guitar I've ever owned. Every time I play this guitar I come away more thrilled that it is actually mine. The best way to describe the tone is "balanced." It is bright - as many Taylors are known to be - but it also has a warmer tone that a spruce-top model. The body style (grand symphony) gives it a bigger sound than the famous grand-auditorium, yet it isn't quite as boomy or loud as a dreadnaught or jumbo. The result is a guitar that has decent, though not loud volume, but is even across the EQ spectrum. It also responds very well to a lighter touch. Fingerpicking or lead picking will project well and not be totally overpowered by strumming in terms of volume. That makes it a great all-around guitar - in performance, the bright tones cut through the mix. In the studio, you get a full tonal array to work with. And overall, it just feels, sounds, and even smells excellent (red cedar) when playing. I love it.
