Comments about Yamaha EMX5016CF 500W Per Channel Powered Mixer:

I have run a DJ/KJ/VJ business for seven years. I have worked with two different professional sound companies and have played in several professional bands over the course of 22 years. I own three complete PA rental systems and frequently run sound for bands. I bought this unit to use for smaller bars and events. I own Yamaha mains, subs, monitors (along with JBL, QSC, Crown, and yes Behringer). While I would highly recommend Yamaha speakers, I cannot do the same for this unit. I have used it for five shows and tried everything to make it work. The sound of the dual effects are thin and cheap. The maximizer is a cruel joke. The FRC works OK, but not 25% as good as outboard units. The EQ works OK, but is limited on fine adjustments. The channel compressers are useless. The feedback destroyer works OK, but not great. The channel preamps sound weak without any depth or punch, they sound very thin on vocals. The amps lack sufficient power(and I used 4 ohm speakers with this board) and using an outboard amp doesn't make the board itself sound any better. I honestly prefer the Behringer PMP6000 over this board (which is what I have replaced the Yamaha with). Sounds better, has more power and is half the price. This board is over priced and half-@&#@# engineered. Good thing I have money to buy something to replace it. I gave this unit to my son's band to use for practice cause I can't use it in public. Yamaha, I am very disappointed, you can do better than this!

Comments about Yamaha EMX5016CF 500W Per Channel Powered Mixer:

I am a hobbyist/amateur musician, but many friends who are professionals have commented very favorably on this mixer after seeing and hearing it. You just can't find any better sound, power, and features at this price. I am totally happy with my purchase of this mixer.
I spent a lot of time researching a cost effective system. I use it mostly for my live sound needs (solo guitar and vocals with background audio tracks - such as karaoke tracks) and for Karaoke system at large parties and DJ work. I looked at powered and passive mixers, power amps, passive and powered speakers, and every possible combination thereof. For a complete system, I could not find equal quality and functionality at this price point (around 2K for the entire setup with all cables, microphones, stands, speakers, etc.) so I went with this mixer and JBL 115 club speakers and let me tell you the sound is excellent and provides enough power for all but the largest club situations or small outdoor events. There are plenty of channels, good built in effects, and Yamaha "1 knob compression" for the first 8 (mono/microphone) channels. There is also the automatic feedback suppression that seems to work well and an automated feature to EQ your setup specific to the environment that also works well but tends to need a little more extreme low and high end to punch it up a little after the auto setup does it's thing. There are two built in effects channels (can set two different effects). They seem to give a little bit of hiss at high sound levels and high effects levels seem to promote feedback, but it is not enough of a problem to be of any real concern and may be due to me still figuring out the best combination of individual channel levels and overall effect levels. My only regret now is that I wish I had got the 215 speakers but that has nothing to do with this mixer. I am happy to rate it 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone with the right application for it.
