terry on Apr 6, 2011
BEST ANSWER: The 16 LED wil be more intense plus it wont be as hot.
Is the bulb a metal halide?
A shopper on Feb 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We are not able to find this spec published anywhere, but the manufacturer has confirmed it IS a metal-halide bulb. Hope that helps.
Does anyone know approximately how much square footage a cannon can light? I need to cover about 1600 square feet and was thinking 2 cannons.
Hennessy on Aug 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Two cannons should definitely do the job for that small of an area.
What is the actual power draw of the unit? It uses a 400W output lamp, but the ballast clearly draws a different wattage, and American DJ doesn't list actual draw.
Steve on Apr 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, the overall wattage draw doesn't seem to be listed anywhere. The only specification I can find related to power is 400w output lamp draw and 110v AC power, which is standard wall voltage.
Does this uv light get, where you can't touch until it cools down
null on May 10, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The bulb in this unit will get very hot because it is a halogen bulb. The light housing will get warm to the touch but only the bulb will get hot enough to burn. If heat is a concern to you I would recommend going with an LED Blacklight, they are cool to the touch. If you have any more questions feel free to give us a call. 800-945-9300.
Does the fixture use a ballast like a metal halide or other HID fixture would use?
null on Apr 28, 2011
BEST ANSWER: I dont have that information but here is a link to the American DJ information sheet about this product. http://www.americandj.com/pdffiles/UV%20Canon%20Final.pdf
Does this fixture come with the lamp?

Don't waste your money
Pros: Easy Setup
Cons: Weak,Heavy,Inefficient

I bought six units, the tightening knob on 4 of the six fixtures stripped out within the first two hangs. 3 units blew fuses the very first time I plugged them in. Long wait time to warmup and restrike. Weak coverage at 27 feet high.
Spend your money on the 160w Panel unit(I have four), lighter, less energy, no wait restrike, much better coverage, nice unit. Anyone want to buy 6 slightly used UV cannons?

Not what I was expecting!
Pros: Easy Setup
Cons: Weak,Inefficient,Runs Hot

I bought this for black light dances and to give a glow to parties but the light output did not cover a standard room very well. I was underwhelmed by the general coverage. The light works best in a completely dark room. Also, the more items in the room that will glow in the UV light the better. The UV cannon is heavy, bulky and very hot. I would recommend this product for more permanent installation or use with a truss. There are other options for mobile use that would be a better.

Not too bad
Pros: Easy Setup,Semi-Bright
Cons: Runs Hot,Heavy

The product is ok. It runs really hot after about 10 minutes.

I've used it for 14 hours so far, (2 nights) and no problems so far.

It is not a very bright blacklight at all! I was expecting soo much more from this cannon!

I think this light would best be used at a smaller venue.

Does the job!
Pros: Long Beam Throw
Cons: Runs Hot

This light is much brighter than the old shop lights with 40 watt bulbs. It covers a much larger area, and though it's a bit bulky and gets hot, it's a good bang for the buck. LEDs just don't cut it yet unless you want to spend a lot more.

Does the job, but Very bulky!!
Pros: Long Beam Throw,Bright
Cons: Runs Hot,Difficult To Transport

Product is good, but its very big and heavy, and also gets extremely hot! Make it the first item you unplug after your gig or you will be burning a hole in your travel bag

Oldie But Goodie
Pros: True Black Light Spectrum,Bright,Easy Setup,More Uv Than Led,Low Cost,Huge Coverage Area,Long Beam Throw
Cons: Warm Up Time

Used to make a climbing area for kids glow. Worked great as it covered a large area with just a single fixture.

Great for Halloween
I use this to light the front yard for Halloween. It is a little heavy and bulky but once it is hung it lights up most of the yard letting me use my smaller UV lights for effects elsewhere. I've used it for 3 Halloweens running for 5 hours each all on the same lamp.
November 7, 2010
Big, heavy and not as bright as the two $33 36 watt led uv light bars used together (that were purchased online from another source). I tested both fixtures side by side and at 40' both lights traveled the distance but, the cheap leds were at least double the brightness on neon-colored objects. The Cannon's beam angle is smaller than I expected. The online description didn't mention this but it's in the printed manual that accompanied the light. This isn't a wash light at all. It does work well if you use it in the proper situation.
