Live sound sometimes seems like a wild, uncaged animal—very hard to control. With the SRM Series Portable Active Loudspeakers, Mackie came up with the technology to help tame the beast, so you could focus on your performance, instead of being distracted by constant EQ and level tweaks. Now, with the SRM450v2, live sound is whipped completely into submission, giving you more control over your shows than ever. Thanks to its all-new design—from adding new amps and transducers to a new lightweight power supply—the SRM450v2 surpasses the performance of the original SRM450 to deliver pure studio monitor sound at more powerful, full-on loudspeaker levels. Mackie kept it affordable, too—even though the SRM450v2 is a complete redesign from inside out, it retained a musician-friendly price tag. With the SRM450v2, live never sounded so good …or behaved so well.

A pair of these sound better and put out almost as much bass as my 4-year old pair of dual 15" cerwin-vegas. The best part is how portable and easy to set up they are--they can fit in the back seat of my SUV no problem. With the price drop its a no-brainer (I spoke with a club owner who recently dropped almost $5k for four of these and two of the Mackie powered 15" subs - the sound in there is great, but I bet he wished he waited to buy).

Here is the thing. Mackie an amazing Italian speaker company out sourced to China. Now I'm not hating on China or anything what I'm annoyed with is the lack of quality control, and "cost saving tactics". I've had the privilege to work with Mackie products for the last 8 years, and this last version of their successful SRM-450 is troubling.
Side by side the V2 gets good grades on design "look" and color choices. But cracking it open is another matter. The new speaker's voice coil has been down sized and the quality of the cone seems to have a lot to be desired.
While putting it through its paces next to an original 5 year old SRM-450 the sound quality difference was pretty noticeable at higher DBL's. By this I mean you can hear distortion in the in the v2 when you really push it.
Over the last few months I've watched the wear and tear on this product. Structurally its been sounds besides the average scratch and scuffs. However last week we noticed a developing tear in the surround housing the cone.
After a lengthy costumer service wait and conversation (trust me I wish I has bought this from PSSL) we finally were told that we could buy another speaker. I was grumbling for sure.
We have since hocked the V2 and bought some refurbished SRM-450. I invite you all to comment, do your own research and don't just take my word on it. but with so many people singing its praise I just wanted to give another option.

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
These speakers were purchased with the intent for smaller venues that made it easier than carrying around a full amp rack and speakers. The sound quality is great for this usage. Set-up was a snap and we were able to have music in minutes. The are light weight and easy to mount on speaker stands. The only thing that I would recommend is to also have a powered subwoofer to give it that added punch.

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
To Mr: Ryan from ITMP from MA... Apparently you never heard or understand quality. The original SRM450 were the beast. However, Mackie is struggling to keep up with their own standards. Granted...the qsc K series by all means does not deliver 1000 watts rms. However, the sound quality, compared to the Mackies srm450 v2 is way louder and it has a far more better dispertion. I suggest you to learn the meaning of the word clear sound. That is unless you want your customers telling you the same thing I am telling you.

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
I have used many different types and brands of speakers. I purchased two of the Mackie SRM450v2 speakers. When I hooked them up and had a listen I noticed that when playing MP3 music, as I do most of the time, they sound good, but not great. My other speakers - Peavey PR12 and JBL MPro sounded just as good. Then I played a CD. Wow, night and day difference - the Mackies were super clear and clean, mids were great and overall very smooth. So after further testing and listening I have concluded that the Mackies play low quality music at, well low quality, but high quality stuff is a huge step above the competition. Microphone use was also far better on the Mackie speakers vs the other speakers I was testing them against.
If you want a high quality speaker, that sounds great, is reliable and doesn't claim to have a 1000 watt output (really less than 250 watts of actual power draw) like some other company, buy theses speakers. I was referring the QSC K Series.

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
I used to own a pair of the original SRM450 and sold them to purchase the new SRM450V2. What a mistake!!! The new SRM450V2 sound horrible, look and sound cheap, and have no headroom at all. If you crank them up, you get a horrible hiss noise. I use my digital players with different speakers and never encountered such issues. Not even with the old srm450. I don't know what the issue with Mackie is. Seems that they are cutting corners recently on their products. My point is...do your self a favor... Do not buy this product.

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
These speakers sound very good for the price considering that it has amplification and crossovers all built in, if their clipping maybe the user needs to check their gain structure. distortion can happen due to clipping the output of the mixer or trying too push too much signal into the input of the mackie's....

Sound very tinny and distorted at high volume and to make matters worse, they overheat and krap out. What an embarrassment! Good thing I had a backup pair of Behringers in the van! By the way, Behringers are 1/2 the price and sound twice as good

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
I bought two of these v2's when one of my older (manufacture in Italy)450's stopped working after 7 years. I took them home and compared side by side with my older working srm450. The first V2 speaker I tried was much quieter and lacked the hard hitting punchy mid/low end I was used to from my older 450. It also distorted even at low volumes. Thank god for the 30 day return policy. I was about to pack them up and return them when I decided to try the other v2 just in case after I heard the Mackie quality control has been suffering since sending all manufacturing to China. And to my surprise, this V2 came alive and gave me the good old punchy mackie sound that matched my older 450. I ran a test, cutting mids, lows and highs and swung the sound from v2 to 450. The v2 had a slightly different, maybe more electronic sound through the mids and lows but sounded very good. The highs were comperable, but the v2 seemed to "scream" a little bit more. The clarity was good, but was a little overbearing and some EQ my be necessary. Overall though I was happy with the non-lemon V2 until I played my 1st gig...When I pushed the V2 at higher volumes it distorted very noticably with all types of music and various EQ settings. So much for the beautiful studio quality sound when you need it most...Conclusion: Very light and portable and sounds great at low volume. But if you intend to use it as it was designed, for larger than studio or small house parties, I would keep looking.. I love the Mackie sound and may look at picking up some older 450's but the sudden closing of the factory in China and the 4-8 month lag on parts while they try to open another factory is more than troubling. Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
I bought this active speaker for use with my Vdrums td9sx. I am very happy with the clarity in the high end and mids. The Bass is Thumpy and low but I would understand why you would want to buy a quality subwoofer if you need to hear super low tones. In my opinion, this speaker is a must have as a personal monitor for the Vdrums. If you want to use it for stage sound reinforcement, buy two and a good active sub. You will not be disappointed.Sincerely,Wolff Shipp[@]

Comments about Mackie SRM-450-V2 2-Way Active Loudspeaker - GOOD:
These are great cabinets. However, I do many upscale events and don't need my speakers to have color. It doesn't match anything else I have(including my 6 other 450s). Mackie told me I'd love these so much that I would want to switch my other 6 cabinets over to these new blue models. Nice pitch guys. What's the next color going to be? Then I can switch out 8 cabinets. Cheesy.
